Villa Toscano is a winery that has been making wines of distinction in the Shenandoah Valley for more than 25 years. Our wines are produced from our beautiful estate vineyards. The Shenandoah Valley, Amador County appellation has been producing wines and grapes since the gold rush days in California. Which makes this area rich in history and a unique wine growing area.
Located 100 miles from San Francisco and 40 miles east from Sacramento in the Sierra Foothills. Amador county is best known for its Zinfandel, Barbera, and Rhone varietal as well. Amador county grapes are best known for being bold and complex.
Erika and Jerry Wright, owners of Villa Toscano, have always cherished this beautiful, historic wine-growing region. As we stepped foot on this enchanting property, we were instantly transported to the rolling hills of Italy’s wine country. The Shenandoah Valley’s natural beauty captivated us, and we knew we had to make it our own. We purchased this picturesque land, complete with a quaint barn, towering oak trees, and grazing cows. As we settled in, we poured our hearts into transforming this haven into our dream home and business. We planted lush vineyards, built a warm and inviting tasting room, and established state-of-the-art production facilities. But our vision didn’t stop there. We crafted stunning gardens, serene ponds, and cozy seating areas, all perfectly positioned to take in the breathtaking views of the vineyards. Twenty-seven years later, we’re still deeply in love with this magical place, and we’re grateful to share it with incredible people like you. As a young woman growing up in Grand Junction Colorado, Susan Farrington never guessed she’d one day become a winemaker crafting wines from the Shenandoah Valley.
Susan moved to California in 1986 to raise a family and began her career in the wine industry at Montevina Winery in 1990. She started on the bottling line and gradually worked her way up to production leading the lab, vineyard and developing her palate. Her passion for the industry reaffirmed her belief that she was destined to make wine. Since joining the Villa Toscano winemaking team in 2005, learning the ropes as an assistant winemaker before becoming the winery’s winemaker in 2006.
She has been working in the Shenandoah Valley for the past 25 years specializing in French and Italian varietals grown in the region. She is a highly respected winemaker in the industry with incredible senses and work-ethic. Susan has the same goal every day; to make the best wines she can with passion and pride.
Susan studied for six months tasting wines from all over the world and passing the intro sommelier course in 2017. She resides in Sutter Creek and loves to cook and travel.
“Winemaking is a constant learning experience with the elements mother nature gives us” says Susan.
